Concerned residents of eMalahleni have come forward to express their growing frustration and alarm over the ongoing problem of illegal dumping in their area.
Despite numerous complaints and pleas for action, the issue continues to trouble the community, creating environmental and health risks.

According to the residents, it is alleged that the majority of people responsible for this illegal dumping are people from outside Spring Valley.
The resident, who wishes to remain anonymous, has emphasised that this has been an ongoing thing for several years, and she has witnessed a lot of people doing this illegal dumping in the area, “The authorities seem to be turning a blind eye to this issue, and it’s up to us residents to demand action, though we know that we won’t see any,” she said.
The affected areas are littered with piles of trash, including hazardous materials, furniture, car parts, plastic bags, and construction waste. This not only creates an eyesore but also increases the risk of fires.
One of the residents said that the problem is not limited to aesthetic concerns, but has serious implications for public health and the environment, “We’re talking about a community where children play, where people live. We are really tired of complaining,” said a resident who wishes to remain anonymous.
Despite repeated complaints to local authorities, the resident claims that nothing has been done to address the issue, “I want to assure the residents that I take this matter seriously and will escalate it to the relevant authorities. It’s imperative that we address this issue promptly, not only for aesthetic reasons but also for the serious health and environmental risks it poses,” said Spring Valley Ward Councillor, Salomi Kriel.
Residents are urged to report anyone they find doing illegal dumping activities without putting themselves in danger.
The residents are pleading with those in power to take this matter seriously.
