Alleged intoxicated man tries to bribe his way out of trouble

A man was arrested during a stop-and-search operation at the N4 Middelburg Toll Plaza and an alleged bribe landed him in more hot water.

It seems that corruption has found a comfortable chair in the City of Coal. It’s seated and not promising to leave.

This raised concern follows the recent arrest of a man after he was found allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol.

A sudden turn of events occurred and made his evening the worst rollercoaster of events as the police searched his car and discovered a large plastic bag with a substance believed to be drugs inside it.

The man told the police that he had no idea what was inside the plastic bag and that he was instructed to deliver it.

According to the police, the man offered to give them R3 000 if they let him go.

The man is facing three charges: driving under the influence, possession of drugs, and corruption.

“People should stop bribing officers of the law for them to let them get away with their offences. Bribery is a crime,” said Witbank Police Station spokesperson, Eddie Hall. “Motorists are also urged to not drink and drive. You have the power to save a life,” he added.
