DA slams municipality for refuse collection crisis
City of Coal looks like a trash can because refuse has not been collected for weeks on end.
The DA voiced their concern about the ineffective waste collection services in the City of Coal.
Wrapped in refuse bags, members of the party gathered at the Waste Management Department earlier today after they handed a memorandum to the Municipal Manager, Sizwe Mayisela.
In the memorandum, they highlight the urgency of the situation.
If waste collection is not in place, health issues arise, and it also causes an infestation of rats or cockroaches. Not to mention the damage to the environment.
“The municipality has not collected waste for over three weeks, however, residents are paying for the service that is not being provided,” said the DA’s Clr Antoni Brits.
