Emalahleni Local Municipality council has elected new leadership.

At a special council sitting held on May 13, Clr Millicent Shabangu was elected as the new Speaker of Council, while Clr Given Koko took on the role of Chief Whip.

In addition to these key appointments, the Executive Mayor, Clr Vusi Nhlapho, has also appointed new Members of the Mayoral Committee (MMCs) across various directorates.

These appointments include Clr Sizwe Buthelezi for Community Services and Clr Thabang Mathebula for Technical Services.

Furthermore, the following changes were made to the composition of the MMCs: Clr Nombuso Mokwana has been appointed for Developmental Planning and Clr Betty Maphosa for Environmental and Waste.

These councillors will serve in their positions until the next local government elections, scheduled for 2026.
