Even beer is not safe in eMalahleni

It seem like hijacking is a standard procedure in the City of Coal. It doesn’t matter what kind of a transport you are using, you are also a target.

With eMalahleni sitting on top with hijacking in the crime stats that was released during May, another incident was reported whereby a truck driver was hijacked while transporting beer to Johannesburg.

The truck driver told the police that on June 6 at 23:30 he was on his way to deliver beer in Johannesburg when the truck started giving him problems.

He said that five men approached him, with one of them allegedly armed. The alleged armed man opened his passenger door, got inside the truck and ordered the driver to drive out of the town to where he was tied and left there. The hijacker fled the scene with the truck.

Witbank Police are urging motorists to always be on the lookout, protect themselves and their property when on the road.
