Bolt driver minus cash and cell phone after robbery

If a rider behaves inappropriately or suspiciously, stay calm and polite and end the journey as soon as possible to prevent being preyed upon.

A disturbing incident recently occurred in which what was supposed to be a Bolt driver’s normal trip, turned into a nightmare.

According to the police, the driver alleged that he was on duty on June 5 when he received a ride request from a client who was at Mandela Street.

Upon picking up the client, he was requested to also pick up a cousin, which he gladly did. But as soon as the cousin got inside the vehicle, he allegedly took out a firearm and pointed it at him.

The robbers robbed the driver of his cell phones and the cash he had on him, got out of the vehicle, and fled.

Spokesperson for the Witbank Police Station, Captain Eddie Hall, encourages drivers to practice caution when attending to ride requests.

“Ensure that you pick up the correct rider by asking the rider to confirm their name and requested destination before they enter your car. If a rider behaves inappropriately or suspiciously, stay calm and polite and end the journey as soon as possible, thereafter, report what has happened to authorities. Most importantly, trust your judgement, once you start suspecting that something is wrong, rather act proactively and end the drive there immediately,” he said.
