Alleged armed thieves ditch exploded cash box

Witnesses sought after robbery attempt in Vosman Mall parking lot ends in chaos

A bold daylight robbery at a mall in Vosman has sparked a full-scale manhunt, with police intensifying efforts to apprehend a group of armed men who targeted security officers in a brazen heist just after 10:25.

According to police on July 2, security personnel were exiting a store with a case of cash en route to their cash van when they were ambushed by alleged armed individuals disguised in reflector jackets.

The alleged armed men reportedly held the guards at gunpoint before forcibly taking a firearm and the cash.

The stolen cash case is said to have exploded during the suspects’ getaway, scattering the money and prompting them to abandon the case at the scene.

They then fled the scene in a white Toyota Corolla Quest with no visible number plates.

Fortunately, no injuries were reported, but the incident has rattled nerves in the community and highlighted the evolving tactics of criminal syndicates.

Brigadier Donald Mdhluli has urged the public to assist:

“We are calling on anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has information that could lead to arrests to come forward. Tip-offs can be made anonymously via Crime Stop at 08600 10111 or through the MYSAPS App.”
