Guesthouse owner shot in attempted robbery

Police seek armed trio after guesthouse shooting.

An attempted murder at a local guesthouse in eMalahleni took a violent turn when men posing as potential guests opened fire on the owner, then fled the scene without taking any possessions.
According to the police, the attack occurred around 18:20 on July 6 when the owner noticed a white Toyota Hilux, without a visible registration plate, enter the property.

A man exited the vehicle and entered the premises, requesting accommodation for four individuals.

The owner informed him that rooms were available but noted that due to a power outage, the speed point was not operating. The visitor claimed he would leave briefly to withdraw cash.

“After explaining to the men that the card machine was not working, they responded to me, saying that they would be back in 30 minutes. Two minutes after they left, they came back and entered my premises with firearms. They shot me in the right leg and left with nothing,” said the owner of the local guesthouse, traumatised.

The trio fled the scene in the same white Toyota Hilux, leaving behind a wounded victim and taking no property.

Captain Eddie Hall, spokesperson of SAPS Witbank, shared the following tips: “Comply, remain calm, and do not argue with crime perpetrators. Do not make sudden gestures. Avoid eye contact, but try to remember how the perpetrator looks by identifying and remembering special features. Try to get away safely from the area as quickly as possible. Do not be a hero, your life is worth more than anything else.”
