Head-on collision on R555 claims two lives

The R555 is now open and safe to travel. It was closed earlier due to an accident.

The R555 was closed for almost four hours following a horrific head-on collision between a Ford Fiesta and a BMW.

The driver of the Ford Fiesta and a baby, also from the same car, died on the scene.

The driver of the BMW, Nhlanhla Madi sat motionless and watched as emergency personnel tended to the third victim, a woman who was a passenger in the Ford Fiesta.

An eyewitness who drove behind the BMW said the driver of the Ford Fiesta allegedly tried to overtake a bakkie and lost control.

“The Ford Fiesta nipped the back of a trailer, and when he tried to swerve back, he lost control and smashed the BMW head-on.”

The eyewitness did not want his name mentioned.
