R555 drivers cheer removal of problematic speed hump

The speed hump- headache on the R555 was removed yesterday after several complaints from the community.

The speed hump installed as a measure to curb speeding following a tragic accident that claimed the lives of an infant and a man earlier in the month has been removed.

However, the safety solution quickly became a new problem. Shortly after its installation, three accidents were reported at the curb just after Jackaroo Park at the speed hump.

According to a tow-in driver on the scene, motorists were caught off-guard by the unexpected obstruction.

Their last-minute, hard braking led to a series of collisions, highlighting that the measure, intended to prevent further tragedies, was ironically causing them instead.

This unintended consequence ultimately led to the speed hump’s swift removal.
