eMalahleni woman escapes abduction
The police urge people who host sleepovers to always be aware of their surroundings for their safety.
A lady’s soothing sleep at her friend’s place landed her in a backroom at some location where she had to wrestle hard for an escape.
According to the police, a woman alleged that in the morning of August 30, she was sleeping at her friend’s place in the CBD area with the door unlocked, when her friend’s relative came in and yanked her from the bed to a vehicle outside, threatening to shoot her if she screamed.
She reported that the man drove with her to some location where he locked her inside a backroom. Fortunately, when the lady saw a hammer, she made use of it and fought her way out of the room, then ran and asked for help. That was when she was assisted by a couple who took her to their house and called the police.
Investigations are still ongoing as the police seek to reach the bottom of it.
To stay safe during a sleepover, Sergeant David Ratau of the Witbank SAPS says you should always make sure you know and trust all the members of the household, and keep all doors locked, especially if you’re in unfamiliar places.
“Stay aware of what is happening around you and be prepared to take action if you sense any danger. Importantly, if something feels wrong, trust your gut feeling and act,” he said.
