Carjackers strike thrice in 3 hours
Two carjackings and one attempted carjacking in just three hours.
Vosman police are investigating two carjackings and one attempted carjacking that occurred within a three-hour period.
The three incidents took place between 20:45 and 23:35 in different parts of eMalahleni on September 26.
The first incident occurred at approximately 20:45 in KwaGuqa Extension 7. According to police, a man driving a white Isuzu D-Max was about to park when an unknown man appeared at the driver’s side door. The man ordered him to get out of the vehicle and lie on the ground. The driver was taken into a nearby unoccupied house. Another man then joined, and both left the scene with the vehicle.
The second carjacking happened around 21:00 in Extension 12. According to police, a man driving a white Nissan NP200 had stopped at a tuck shop when two unknown armed men confronted him. They took the vehicle, and drove away.
The third incident, classified as an attempted carjacking, occurred at approximately 23:35 at Block 2, Mgababa Hostel in Ackerville. According to police, a man parking his white VW Polo was approached by about six unknown men who entered the yard. One opened the driver’s door and ordered him out of the vehicle. The man complied but managed to escape while calling for help. The men tried to start the vehicle but failed.
SAPS advised motorists, “Avoid being alone in a vehicle when travelling at night. Do not stop around hijacking spots or in any secluded area. Always be alert when driving. If you suspect that you are being followed by a suspicious vehicle, drive to the nearest police station or call the SAPS Emergency Number 10111. Avoid distractions such as being on your phone or drinking and driving. Increase caution at intersections; always keep a lookout for people loitering around your car or for any sudden activity around your car.”
