GBV claims more victims in Ackerville

According to Captain Vusi Mnisi, the information at the police’s disposal revealed that the husband turned the gun on himself after he had shot the wife.

In another harrowing case of domestic violence, a couple was found dead in a back room of a residence following a fatal shooting in what police believe to be a murder suicide.

According to the Vosman SAPS spokesperson, Captain Vusi Mnisi, the officers responded to a domestic violence complaint last night around 21:00. Upon arrival at the scene, they were met by a group of concerned residents gathered outside the yard and the homeowner, who directed them to where the incident occurred.

“Officers discovered the lifeless body of a woman lying on the bed with a gunshot wound on her chest,” said Mnisi.

The woman’s husband, identified as the alleged shooter, was also found in the same room, still clutching the firearm.

“The man was still gasping for air, with a firearm lying beside him. Paramedics were summoned to the scene but certified both the male and the female deceased upon arrival,” said the SAPS provincial spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Jabu Ndubane.

“Preliminary investigations suggest that the man turned the gun on himself after fatally shooting his wife,” Ndubane added.

Police are investigating a murder case as well as an inquest. The circumstances surrounding both cases remain unknown.

The domestic violence that resulted in the murder of the woman was reported just weeks after another woman was hacked to death with a pickaxe, allegedly by her husband, in the Old Coronation area.

After the murder, the man jumped in front of an oncoming train. He died on the scene.
