Heavy rainfall leads to flooding in the Kromdraai area

While the storm itself was sudden, locals say the damage was predictable, as they have been crying out about it for ages.

Residents in Kromdraai in ward 29 are expressing deep frustration after heavy rainfall led to severe flooding in the area earlier today.

The excessive amount of water left learners from a local school stranded and trapped across the tributary.

According to a resident, Oupa Skosana, complaints about poor drainage and flood risks have been submitted to the local councillor and other relevant people for more than two years.

Despite repeated reports and requests for intervention, they say no meaningful action has been taken.

“We had asked for a temporary bridge from the officials since they couldn’t offer a permanent one, but it all went unattended,” said Skhosana.

WITBANK NEWS tried to reach out to the ward councillor, who had not responded during the time of publication.

This is a developing story.
