Motorists urged to drive cautiously as rain continues

The Mpumalanga Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison urges motorists to be cautious and reduce speed on slippery roads.

Motorists in eMalahleni are urged to exercise extreme caution on the roads as the rains continue to pour.

The persistent rain have made roads slippery and hazardous, especially on low-lying bridges and areas prone to flooding.

To avoid deadly crashes, Moeti Mmusi from Mpumalanga Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison, urges motorists to reduce speed on slippery roads, maintain a safe following distance, ensure wipers are working properly, keep lights on for increased visibility, and avoid flooded areas and overflowing river bridges.

“We’re also calling on motorists to plan their trips ahead, consider alternative routes, and drive during the day if possible,” he said, adding that drivers must not forget to be cautious of roadworks on N4, N11, N2, and R40, as rain can make them more hazardous.
