Business robberies still on the rise in eMalahleni

The SAPS advises the public to tighten up security at businesses to prevent robbery.

Robbers left businesses with great loss in two recent break-ins that occurred within two days in different parts of eMalahleni.

In the first incident that occurred on November 11 around 00:30, a man told the police that he was on duty when five men broke into his workplace and instructed him to cooperate.

They tied him with his shoelaces, forcing him to lie on the ground. By the time he managed to untie himself, the robbers were all gone and had made off with a stage diesel pump and a cellphone from the local workshop.

The following day, around 20:30, another incident occurred in which, according to the police, a man was on duty at his workplace, where he works as a security guard, when he suddenly noticed two men.

They allegedly pointed a firearm at him and instructed him to cooperate. He told the police that the robbers tied him up and took a hand radio, cellphone, and torch, fleeing the company premises thereafter.

Investigations into both cases are underway, and the police are urging anyone with information to come forward.
The SAPS strongly recommends tightening up security at businesses to prevent robbery.

“Maximise visibility both inside and outside the business to deter potential robbers, invest in security cameras, alarms, and access control systems, and place them in strategic areas. Also, implement physical security measures like reinforced doors, window security film, and secure storage for valuables,” police spokesperson Sergeant David Ratau said.
