Local heroes ready to help — stay safe this December

As festive season activity increases, local safety teams urge residents to stay alert and connected.

As the festive season draws near, eMalahleni, Middelburg, and surrounding communities are being urged to stay vigilant and prioritise safety during a period known for increased travel, busy shopping centres, and heightened criminal activity.

Local safety groups are reminding residents that road congestion and holiday travel often contribute to higher accident rates. Motorists are encouraged to drive cautiously, follow road rules, and remain patient on the roads to ensure safer journeys for everyone.

With the rise of Black November specials and holiday shopping, shopping centres are expected to be more crowded than usual. Residents are advised to secure their vehicles properly, keep belongings out of sight, and stay alert in public spaces.

Safety teams are also stressing the importance of personal security. Residents are encouraged to avoid withdrawing large amounts of cash and to use electronic payment methods whenever possible. Those who need to withdraw money are urged to stay aware of their surroundings and avoid doing so alone. Parents are further reminded to keep a close eye on children in busy areas to prevent incidents of missing children or abductions.

To strengthen community awareness, residents are encouraged to download the Zello app and join the SACCW Witbank Channel. The platform provides real-time updates on road conditions, accidents, house robberies, emergencies, and suspicious activity. The channel is monitored around the clock by relevant authorities, ensuring a reliable communication link during the festive period.
