Congregants robbed at gunpoint in Emsagweni church

Police are investigating the case, and no arrests have been made.

Vosman Police are investigating a business robbery after a church in Emsagweni was raided by an armed gang at midnight.

According to the police, a man told them that on November 22 at 00:00 he was standing outside the church when he saw a vehicle passing by the church, stopped a few metres away from the church, and reversed.

The driver got out of the car and opened the boot, followed by the other three passengers, with one of them being a woman.

The man further told the police that one of the men and the woman approached him, stating that she was suffering from a headache and she needed prayers.

The man asked her to come inside the church. One man stayed by the door. He later also entered the church.

The man told the police that the two remaining men later got inside the church, took out a firearm, shouting that everyone move in one direction and hand over their cellphones as well as their purses.

“We are investigating the case, but no arrest has been made yet,” said the Vosman spokesperson, Captain Vusi Mnisi.

Anyone with information that can help the police in solving the case can contact the Vosman SAPS at 079 891 5314 or 013 244 7196.
