Gush wind and storm cause havoc at nature reserve

Both the fences at the nature reserve and Bankenveld in eMalahleni were damaged earlier today.

The sudden storm that tore through eMalahleni this afternoon left its mark on the approach to the Witbank Dam, damaging boundary fences on both sides of the access road.

A signboard fell on the nature reserve’s boundary fence and flattened the fence.

The strongest impact occurred when a sudden gush of wind brought down a huge signboard adjacent to the nature reserve.

The signboard collapsed onto the boundary fence, causing significant damage.

A fallen tree on the Witbank Dam road.

On the opposite side of the road, a large tree fell, flattening a substantial stretch of the boundary fence leading to the dam.

Teams from Vikela and Bankenveld managed the immediate aftermath.

The team successfully removed the fallen tree debris and secured the damaged fence on the Bankenveld side.

On the opposite side, the massive signboard was removed and the boundary fence was given a temporary fix to ensure security until permanent repairs can be made.
