Operation Safer Festive strikes – three arrested for unlicensed firearms in Ga-Nala

The suspects are expected to appear in the Kriel Magistrate’s Court soon, facing charges of possession of unlicensed firearms.

Three suspects were arrested in Ga-Nala for possession of unlicensed firearms.

Made on December 16, the arrests were carried out during Operation Safer Festive Season, which focuses on reducing crime in high-risk areas during the holiday period.

According to Mpumalanga SAPS provincial spokesperson, Captain Mpho Nonyane-Mpe, two firearms and ammunition were recovered during the operation. The items included a 9mm Norinco Star Pistol with a filed-off serial number and six rounds of ammunition, as well as a Baby Brown Pistol that was missing both a magazine and ammunition.

“The suspects are expected to appear in the Kriel Magistrate’s Court soon, facing charges of possession of unlicensed firearms,” said Nonyane-Mpe.

According to Nonyane-Mpe, the acting provincial commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Major General Dr Zeph Mkhwanazi, commended the officers involved in the operation, stating that the police remain committed to ensuring that those who break the law are brought to justice before the courts.

“We also encourage communities to work with law enforcement to promote safety, especially during this festive season,” Nonyane-Mpe said.
