MEC Thomo leads road safety efforts during post-festive travel
MEC Thomo on the move for road safety.
As post-festive travel starts, MEC for Public Works, Roads and Transport, Thulasizwe Thomo, joined law enforcement teams at the Middelburg Toll Plaza on the N4 to ensure travellers return home safely.
The MEC was on the ground on January 4 with transport inspectors and police officers, observing vehicle inspections, checking public transport operations, and engaging with law enforcement teams to ensure that road users follow traffic regulations.
As traffic volume picks up in the country’s major roads, the Mpumalanga Provincial Government has intensified measures to deal decisively with motorists who violate traffic rules.

His hands-on presence highlights the department’s commitment to protecting all road users during this busy travel period.
Thomo urged drivers and public transport operators to prioritise safety: “We continue to call on all public transport operators and drivers to obey traffic laws, drive responsibly, and ensure the safety of passengers and other road users during this busy travel period.”
