eMalahleni school robbed at gunpoint – criminals made off with computers

According to initial reports, suspects attempted to cut the safe in the office, but they didn’t succeed.

Witbank SAPS is investigating a case of business robbery after a local school was raided at gunpoint at midnight.

The incident happened on January 14 around 00:15.

According to the police, a security officer who was on duty told them that a gang of eight armed men with balaclavas made their way to a classroom where he was guarding.

They allegedly pointed a firearm at him and forced him to go to where his colleague was.

The man further alleged to the police that the gang forced him and his colleague into the computer room, where they were searched and robbed of their three phones.

The armed gang then removed several computers from the computer room, and later left the duo in the computer room as they headed to raid the school’s office.

The victims managed to escape and seek help from a neighbouring house.

Police were summoned to the scene, and according to their reports, the number of computers that were stolen is unknown.

The gang allegedly tried to cut the safe; however, they failed.

“Investigation on the case is still ongoing, we are urging anyone with information that could help in solving this case to come forward,” said the Witbank SAPS spokesperson, Captain Eddie Hall.
