Witbank SAPS calls for community action to protect essential infrastructure

The urgent appeal follows a recent rise in the number of cases where essential infrastructures were tampered with around eMalahleni.

The Witbank Police have issued an urgent appeal to residents to help safeguard the city’s essential infrastructure, particularly Eskom power cables and electricity supply lines, following a rise in theft and vandalism cases.

According to police, the main power supply lines feeding the city have been deliberately targeted.

These acts of sabotage pose a serious risk to service delivery and public safety.

“Damage or theft of critical power lines can lead to widespread and prolonged electricity outages, leaving households, businesses, and healthcare facilities vulnerable while increasing opportunities for further criminal activity,” said the Witbank SAPS spokesperson, Captain Eddie Hall.

The Witbank SAPS is urging community members to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity.

This includes individuals seen tampering with, stealing, or vandalising electricity infrastructure or other essential services.

Police stress that community cooperation is vital in preventing further harm and ensuring the stability of the city’s power supply.

Residents are encouraged to report incidents directly to Witbank Police Station at 079 891 5570 or Crime Stop at 08600 10111.

They have assured the public that all information provided will be treated with the strictest confidentiality.
