Armed thugs hijack a motorist on N12

The motorist had made a brief stop on the roadside at N12 but ended up losing his car.

A shocking incident occurred in eMalahleni in which a man was assaulted and robbed of his car as he had stopped to relieve himself along the road.

According to the police, a man said he had been driving on the N12 on January 21, and around 17:55, he suddenly felt nature call. He said that during his short break to relieve himself, he was approached by three allegedly armed men, two of whom carried firearms and the other one a knife.

The men reportedly pushed him into his car, covered his head, and handcuffed him, driving away in the white Polo. As soon as the car took off, the victim reported that they started assaulting him, only to later drop him off near a mine. The man got help and was accompanied to the police station, where he opened the case.

Investigations into the case are proceeding as WITBANK SAPS works tirelessly to find the hijackers and recover the car.

The police advise motorists to always be careful about where they stop their cars to avoid being seen as easy targets for carjacking.

“Do not stop your car until you are sure it’s safe to do so. If it’s urgent, drive to a safe area where it will be easy for you to get help should something happen,” said Captain Eddie Hall from Witbank SAPS.
