Community demands no bail for Phola father accused of rape

The Phola community is in shock after a father was arrested for allegedly raping a household helper, assaulting his children, and attempting to rape his daughter.

The community of Phola has been left in shock after a horrifying incident in which a father allegedly raped a household helper, assaulted his daughter and her brother, and attempted to rape the daughter.
The suspect was arrested and appeared before the Ogies Magistrate’s Court on February 2.

The case is scheduled to continue on February 6, and the suspect is currently in custody.
The incident, which occurred on the night of January 29, has left the family traumatised and the community demanding justice.

One of the victims recalled the frightening beginning of the night: “I was sleeping when the house helper came to me and said she was leaving. She told me my father was naked.” “I went to see him and found him naked. I went back to sleep because I was scared.”

But what followed was far worse. Screams erupted from the house, and then he ran to check, discovering his sister being beaten.

“I heard screaming and realised it was my sister. When I went inside the house, I found my father beating her.”

He tried to intervene, but the father allegedly attacked him as well.

“When I asked him what he was doing, he started beating me. I fainted.”

The household helper shared her terrifying account of that night:“He came home drunk that night. He told me that if I did not sleep with him, he would sleep with his daughter. He then forced himself on me and raped me.”

“As a community, we cannot stay silent when children are being harmed in their own homes,” a resident said. “We want the court to act swiftly. These children need protection and justice.”

Family members expressed shock, anger, and concern.

“We are devastated as a family. These children trusted their father, and now they are hurt and scared,” a relative said.“We want the court to make sure he does not get bail. The children need to feel safe again.”

“We are worried about their mental and physical health. They need support and justice, and we will do everything to protect them,” another family member said.
