‘Royal’ blast marks first dayjol of 2026

Nothing beats the spirit of a true dayjol. From helmet throws to bike musical chairs, the Royal Eagles set the tone for the rest of the year.

The roar of engines and smell of burning tyres were evidence enough that motorbikes ‘invaded’ the airfield over the weekend.

The first dayjol of the year, hosted by the Royal Eagles on January 31, brought together riders for a day of fun, speed, and skill.

This was the club’s fourth dayjol and over 100 motorbikes joined in the fun.

The main attraction was undoubtedly the quarter-mile drags, where riders put their machines and reflexes to the ultimate test. While the competition was stiff, Kobus Diedericks stole the show.

On his Yamaha R1, Kobus tore down the strip to set the fastest time of the day, 00:11:21.

In his first run, he had the crowd gasping as he wheelied his bike down the strip.

Beyond the speed traps, the airfield was alive with the ‘old school’ biker games that make a dayjol legendary.

The crowd cheered as participants competed in helmet throw, bike musical chairs, and tyre popping.

The weather played its part, and for the most part, it was a scorching day.

A classic afternoon thunderstorm rolled in, but it did not dampen the spirits.

Jay Kotze, president of the Royal Eagles Witbank chapter, thanked all the sponsors, the airfield, and every biker who came out for the day.
