Closed doors don’t secure lives and property in the City of Coal
Two gunmen in balaclavas forced five people to the floor, robbing them several items and a Toyota bakkie.
The Vosman SAPS is investigating two house robbery cases after two houses were robbed in Kromdraai and Hlalanikahle.
The cases are under investigation, and no arrests have been made yet.
The crime spree started on January 28 when a social gathering turned into a nightmare.
The victim told the police that he was sitting with his brothers, girlfriend, and a neighbour when two armed masked men opened the door and ordered them to lie on the floor.
While the victims were lying on the floor, the suspects ransacked the house.
It was reported that they fled with six cellphones, a television, and a Toyota Hilux GD6 bakkie.
Kromdraai resident threatened at knifepoint
In a separate incident in Kromdraai, a woman was awakened by the voice of a strange man.
The woman told police that the suspect threatened her with a knife, warning her not to scream.
The man was then joined by another man who helped him raid the house, and they fled the scene with the woman’s clothes and food.
Following this spike in residential crime, SAPS spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Vusi Mnisi has urged the community to remain vigilant, especially after dark.
“Criminals are increasingly targeting residents in their homes after sunset. If someone knocks late at night, please don’t open for them, tell them to come back the following day, as they might be targeting you,” said Mnisi.
Anyone with information that might help the police with the investigations is urged to contact the Vosman SAPS at 013 244 7196 or 079 891 5314.
