People go ‘bananas’ as cargo is looted

People are looting the truck that overturned on the off-ramp close to Watermeyer Street.

The N12 highway near the Watermeyer Street off-ramp has descended into chaos following a truck accident earlier today.

The situation has escalated as pedestrians have swarmed the roadway to loot the truck’s cargo, a large shipment of bananas.

Dozens of people are crossing live lanes of traffic to reach the overturned vehicle, creating a high-risk environment for both looters and motorists.

Traffic is heavily congested.

Giepie Fisher from Van Wettens confirmed that recovery vehicles are currently en-route to clear the wreckage and restore the flow of traffic.
