Man gets 20 years for policeman’s murder
Court interpreter, Patricia Kutu, was arrested for the murder of her husband and released on R10 000 bail. She will return to court in 2028.
Following the sentencing of Xolani Ndabezitha, who was found guilty of the murder of Sergeant Joseph Kutu from Witbank Tactical Response Team, the second accused was also sentenced.
On February 18, Bonginkosi Langa pleaded guilty to all charges and was sentenced to 20 years’ imprisonment by the Mpumalanga Division of the High Court.
Five years were suspended for five years on condition that he is not found guilty of a similar offence. He was also declared unfit to possess a firearm.
Ndabezitha was sentenced to 15 years’ imprisonment on February 11 after he pleaded guilty to all charges.
The policeman’s wife, Patricia Kutu, was released on R10 000 bail. Her next court appearance is scheduled for January 17, 2028.
She was a court interpreter.

Kutu was gunned down in his house in Vosman, Emalahleni, on July 24, 2021.

Six months later, intelligence-driven information was received regarding the suspect’s whereabouts in Siyabuswa.
“The suspect was found and arrested in the back room of the house where he was renting. The suspect was arrested and detained for further investigation. During further investigation, the wife of the late police officer was linked and arrested on Thursday, December 16, 2021,” said the former provincial Hawks spokesperson Captain Dineo Sekgotodi.
