Massive biker convoy takes a stand against drug abuse

The event brought together bikers from across the country for a “War Against Drug Abuse” campaign.

Bikers from various provinces in South Africa recently came together for a “War Against Drug Abuse” campaign to raise awareness about substance abuse.

Organised by the Industrial Robbers MCC, the event on March 14 transformed into a massive show of force against the substance abuse pandemic affecting communities.

The day started off with a motorcade departing from Ogies School, winding through the surrounding areas.

Donations of necessities also formed part of the prestigious event.

Connie Nkalitshana, the Acting Public Relations Officer for the initiative, explained that the rally was designed to foster a sense of unity among bikers and residents alike in taking a firm stand against the drugs affecting the youth.

“We requested to get help from the Speaker of Emalahleni to get the kids off drugs and to see how we bring them back to society,” Connie said.

The event drew support from various stakeholders, including the Deputy Speaker of the Mpumalanga Legislature, Sam Masango; Emalahleni Local Municipality Speaker Nombuso Shabangu; and traditional leader Ndabezitha Sipho Mahlangu, among others.

A representative from the Kakarambha Foundation, Mpiloenhle Mashiane, which works closely with people struggling with drug addiction, was also present to show support in the war against drug abuse.

The Emalahleni Local Municipality pledged its full support to the anti-drug movement, ensuring to consider structures such as awareness programmes, community policing initiatives, and support services for residents already affected.

“The event went very well; it exceeded our expectations. The bikers, stakeholders from various departments, and community members all came in numbers to support the beautiful initiative,” Connie said, adding that they are going to donate a laptop and food parcels to Kakarambha Foundation.
