Happy birthday Coach Siboniso

This tribute to a coach whose passion has changed the lives of many young stars was the highlight of the weekend’s sporting calendar.

The streets of Empumelelweni were transformed into a birthday celebration of note this past weekend.

In a move that reflects his dedication to the youth, the coach of Sbobo Ladies, Siboniso Zwane, traded a traditional party for a day of high-energy netball and soccer on March 28.


The day was filled with cheers as young women took to the courts and fields.

The event drew spectators out of their homes to the sidelines, where they supported the athletes and celebrated the talent within the Empumelelweni community.

On the soccer field, Sasol Juventus Ladies and eMalahleni Rainbow Ladies delivered a masterclass in defensive play during the final.

After a grueling match, the teams remained deadlocked at 0-0. The winner had to be decided by a tense penalty shootout, where Juventus Ladies eventually showed their mettle, securing a 4-3 victory to take the title.


The action on the netball court was equally intense, with Mighty Rangers Ladies, All Stars, Future Stars, and Caddies battling it out in the semi-finals.


Caddies secured their spot on the podium by beating All Stars 12-4. Future Stars were crowned the day’s winners after a dominant performance against Mighty Rangers Ladies, finishing the final with a score of 19-7.
