The ‘Train of Hope’ arrives in eMalahleni

The train comes loaded with services as eyecare, and dentalcare for the underprivileged with prices ranging from no fee to R30.

The Transnet Phelophepa Health Care Train, known as the “Train of Hope,” will soon arrive in eMalahleni to bring vital healthcare services directly to the community.

This remarkable hospital on wheels, launched in 1994 as the world’s first primary healthcare train, has been serving millions of South Africans by reaching rural and underserved areas with affordable and accessible care.

During its stay in eMalahleni, the Train of Hope will offer a wide range of services. Residents can benefit from general health screenings for conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, and cancer. Dental and eye care will be available, including the provision of glasses. Psychological and counselling services will be offered to support mental well-being, and pharmacy services will ensure access to necessary medication.

Some services will be free, while others will cost between R5 and R30.

The train will be stationed at the eMalahleni railway station from April 20 to 24 and again from April 27 to May 1. Operating hours will be from 07:30 to 16:00 each day.

Don’t miss this opportunity to welcome the Train of Hope and make use of its services.
