Delivery drivers in Emalahleni are not safe at night
Police warn delivery drivers against doing deliveries at night after a notable increase in motorbike hijackings has been reported.
The wave of motorbike hijackings affecting delivery drivers continues to rise in Emalahleni, despite the police’s continued efforts to urge precaution.
In a recent incident on the late afternoon of May 10, another driver was hijacked on his way to deliver a parcel in Duvha Park.
The man told the police that as he drove through Watermeyer Street, a car pulled up and blocked his way.
As two men got out of the car, one of them allegedly pointed a firearm at the victim and robbed him of his motorbike and cellphone.
The robber fled the scene on the motorbike, while his partner drove off in a white Polo they had arrived in.
The incident follows three other motorbike hijackings that were reported at Witbank SAPS in the past few months.

In the first incident that occurred on March 29, a man reported to the police that he had made a delivery at a complex in eMalahleni Extension 10 around 19:15.
As the recipient was about to tip him, he noticed two armed men behind him, and he ran off.
As the man looked behind him, he reported that a firearm was pointed at his head, and he was forced to lie down.
The men made off with his motorbike, and he was left on the ground.
In another incident that occurred on April 7 in Die Heuwel, a man told the police that he was making a delivery outside a house when a car stopped in front of him and blocked his way.
The man further told the police that three armed men got out of the car and pointed a firearm at him.
The victim was robbed of his cash; however, he ran off afterwards, leaving his motorbike behind.
On April 25, a slightly different incident occurred in which a man was hijacked on a Big Boy motorbike at gunpoint outside a home in Fouche Street.
According to the police, it was around 20:00, and the victim had just returned from work. He said as he was opening his gate, a vehicle stopped nearby.
Two armed men exited the vehicle and approached him. They then moved toward his motorbike, managed to start it, and fled the scene.
Investigations into all the cases are still ongoing.
Witbank SAPS spokesperson, Warrant Officer David Ratau, continues to urge motorbike drivers to be extra observant to avoid falling victim to such incidents.
“Drivers must make sure to always drive with great caution on the road and avoid making deliveries at night. We understand that they need money, but their lives come first,” Ratau said.
