Man struck and killed on the N4

Police warn pedestrians to always wear bright colours and be observant after a man was hit and killed by a vehicle.

Police are investigating a case of culpable homicide following a horrific road accident on the highway that left a man dead.

According to the police, on May 13, around 18:40, an officer on duty received a report of an accident on the N4. Upon arrival at the scene, they found the body of a man lying in the middle of the road.

The man was declared dead by the Emergency Medical Services. Preliminary evidence suggested that the man was hit by a motor vehicle.

The body was transported to the mortuary for further examination and formal identification.

Witbank SAPS spokesperson Warrant Officer David Ratau advises pedestrians to always stay visible and use designated crossings on the road to avoid being hit by vehicles.

“Always wear bright or reflective clothing, especially at night or in poor weather conditions, so that drivers can see you clearly. Also, always cross at pedestrian crossings, traffic lights, or bridges where available,” Ratau said.

“Avoid crossing between parked cars or on busy roads.”
