Emalahleni licensing office closure: Department plans temporary services

The reopening of the Emalahleni licensing office depends on safety hazards being addressed and the prohibition notice being lifted.

The Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison (DCSSL) is working urgently to restore services at the main Emalahleni licensing office.

DCSSL spokesperson Moeti Mmusi said the department is exploring temporary alternatives, including moving computers to a satellite office, until the building is deemed safe for staff.

Indefinite closure

The Department of Employment and Labour (DoEL) closed the office indefinitely last week after finding the building unsafe to work in.

“The office will resume operations once the conditions that threaten the health and safety of the employees and public have been minimised to the satisfaction of the inspector, who will then revoke the prohibition notices,” said Boikie Mampuru, provincial chief inspector of the DoEL.

Witbank News will keep readers updated on measures implemented by the DCSSL.
