The Nkulo Community Partnership Trust, in collaboration with the Emalahleni Local Municipality, has officially launched the Kwa-Guqa Pipeline Rehabilitation project, a R9.437-million investment aimed at strengthening water supply in the area.

The turning of the sod ceremony took place at Lynnville Stadium, marking the start of a seven-month construction programme that will deliver a 3-kilometre bulk raw water pipeline serving three wards.

Trustee Mpumi Sithole described the project as more than infrastructure, saying: “This project represents far more than physical infrastructure; it is a foundational investment in the restoration of health, dignity, and economic potential of the Kwa-Guqa community.”

The initiative responds directly to community concerns about aging water infrastructure and will improve water security for households, businesses and future development. The project is set to create 15 temporary jobs and subcontracting opportunities for local SMMEs.

Local traditional leader, Ndabezitha Nsizwa Mahlangu, welcomed the project, calling water “the lifeblood of our people and the foundation of dignity in our community.” He emphasised the hope and opportunity it brings through job creation.

Mayor Vusi Nhlapho also highlighted the importance of partnerships in addressing community priorities.

“By combining our shared resources and vision with the Nkulo Community Partnership Trust, we are directly addressing critical infrastructure challenges in Kwa-Guqa. Through this investment, we are strengthening municipal services, enhancing water security, and creating opportunities for local SMMEs,” he said.

The project builds on the trust’s previous support for public healthcare in 2024.
