One of the suspects in yesterday’s cellphone store robbery in Klipfontein arrested
The 46-year-old suspect was arrested outside the shop and is due to appear in Witbank Magistrate's Court on January 26.
Yesterday afternoon went out with a bang when shots were fired after the MTN shop in the Klipmed Building in Klipfontein was robbed.
According to information from the police, two armed men and one woman entered the shop, held staff at gunpoint and robbed the store of several cellphones and cash.
Security armed response was activated and members responded swiftly to the scene, where a shootout ensued.
The suspects ran out of the shop, and security officers managed to arrest one 46-year-old male suspect outside the shop in possession of a firearm with ammunition, cellphones, and cash allegedly robbed from the shop.
The other two suspects fled the scene in a white Nissan bakkie.
MTN SA confirmed the robbery and stated that no employees were reported injured.
“Post-traumatic counselling for the employees and customers that were present during this incident has been arranged,” MTN said in a statement.
The arrested suspect is due to appear before Witbank Magistrate’s Court tomorrow (January 26), on charges of armed robbery and possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
