Newbie robbed of firearm at gunpoint in Coronation
Police urge firearm owners to be responsible and not share information about their firearm to people.
A man who came to his cousin in eMalahleni in sought of job opportunities received the worst welcome into the hood as he got robbed of his firearm in front of his new friends.
Sbonelo Qwabe from Coronation said he went to chill with his cousin’s friends in the evening of November 7, where they pleased themselves with a couple of drinks until it got late. As they accompanied him around midnight, they were met by a group of five men who approached him and allegedly pointed a firearm at him.
“From the six of us, I was the only one they searched as they demanded my gun,” Qwabe said, adding that the guys he was with left with the group of robbers afterward, as he ran for his life, trying to navigate his way to his cousin’s home.
Investigations on the matter are underway, as Qwabe also mentioned that someone informed them about the names of the robbers who fled with his firearm and holster.
“My advice to firearm owners is that they must avoid carrying them around in places they are not familiar with. If possible, always keep your firearm in the safe,” Qwabe said.
Captain Eddie Hall from Witbank SAPS, says, “We encourage firearm owners to be responsible and not give information about the firearm nor its safekeeping thereof to friends and strangers.”
