Four fell prey to hijacking in separate incidents in eMalahleni

Reports indicate that not a day passes without a car being hijacked in eMalahleni.

Carjacking has once again reached its peak in eMalahleni, as reports indicate that motorists are being overpowered daily.
In the recent incidents around the Vosman policing area, more than four people were hijacked in separate incidents.
In the first incident, a woman was threatened, allegedly raped and hijacked.

The woman told the police that on November 17, around 13:00, she was at her place when a man approached her and asked her to give him a lift to Kromdraai, where he claimed that he had left his firewood.

The woman drove to Kromdraai, and when they were still on their way, the man pointed a knife at her and told her to jump to the passenger seat as he jumped to the driver’s seat and drove the car.

The woman further explained to the police that the man stopped at the bushes and ordered the woman to get out of the car, take off her clothes and lie down. The woman told the police that the man then allegedly raped her, and he commanded her to go to the car and wait for him there.

When she got back to the car, she attempted to jump to the driver’s seat; however, the man rushed back to the car, drove with her, and allegedly raped her again in the car.

The woman told the police that she saw a truck and jumped out of the car, waved to the truck driver for help, and the man fled off with her Isuzu bakkie that was later found abandoned at Old Coronation.
In the second incident that occurred on November 19 on the N4, by the Mathews Phosa off-ramp, a man told the police that he was driving to Vosman when he noticed that there was a car following him, and it later overtook and stopped in front of him, blocking his way to drive further.

The man told the police that four men got out of the vehicle and came to him, with one of them allegedly holding a firearm.
The man was then ordered to get out of his car, and he was sprayed with pepper spray until he did. Two of the hijackers drove off with his vehicle, and the other two drove off with their vehicle, leaving the victim by the roadside. No arrest has been made.

In the third incident, a man told the police that he had just arrived at his home with his new car when he was approached by three men who were armed and pointed and demanded a firearm from him. He told them that he does not possess a firearm, and they dragged him out of the vehicle, fired two shots, and one drove off with his new Toyota Hilux 2.4D-4D. The vehicle is still at large, and no arrests have been made.

In the fourth incident, a man told the police that he was driving his motorbike around the Mbeki informal settlement when he came across two men who blocked the way for him. The man further told the police that one of the men allegedly took out a firearm and shot into the ground.

He jumped off the motorbike and ran, but they managed to catch him and brought him back to where the bike was, and he was searched and robbed of his phone. The hijackers drove off with his motorbike.

Police are investigating all the cases, and they are still calling on motorists to remain on the lookout when on the road, regardless of the time of day or night.
