Lindokuhle Nyembe crowned Miss SA Disability Ambassador

In Lindokuhle’s wish list, inspiring young people with disabilities to believe in themselves and reminding communities that inclusion is a collective responsibility, was written in bold as she competed for the title.

What began as a dream has now become a powerful reality for Lindokuhle Nyembe, a 30-year-old trailblazer from the City of Coal, who has been crowned ambassador after competing in the Miss South Africa Disability 2025 pageant.
According to Lindokuhle, her victory is not only a personal achievement but also a milestone for the Deaf community countrywide.

Speaking after her win, Lindokuhle described the honour as deeply meaningful: “Winning this ambassador title is a profound honour, not only for me but for the Deaf community at large. This achievement represents progress, visibility, and the breaking of long-standing communication barriers. As an ambassador, I am committed to using this platform to advocate for equal access, promote South African Sign Language, and empower deaf individuals to believe in their own potential. This title is more than a recognition; it is a responsibility to continue pushing for inclusion, representation, and opportunities for Deaf people across the country.”

Growing up deaf in Mpumalanga, a province without a school for deaf learners, Lindokuhle had to attend Filadelfia School for the Deaf in Gauteng. That experience shaped her independence and strengthened her resolve to fight for accessibility and inclusion, especially for those living in rural and underserved areas.

Earlier this year, when she was announced as a finalist, Lindokuhle shared her vision: “For me, this pageant is not only about beauty, it’s about breaking barriers, raising awareness about the deaf community, and promoting South African Sign Language as one of our official languages. I believe that disability does not define limitation, and that every person deserves the right to be seen, heard, and celebrated.”

Now, as an ambassador, Lindokuhle stands ready to use her platform to amplify the voices of deaf people, advocate for equal opportunities, and continue breaking barriers that have long hindered communication and representation.
