Alleged business robbers meet their match during SAPS operation on the N12

According to the police, preliminary investigations revealed that the three men are allegedly linked to multiple robbery incidents, and they were positively identified through CCTV footage obtained from two separate incidents.

Three men, allegedly linked to a string of robberies, were arrested on the N12 early this morning.

According to the Mpumalanga SAPS provincial spokesperson, Captain Mpho Nonyane-Mpe, on March 12, around 01:00, law enforcement teams acted on intelligence pointing to suspects believed to be involved in recent robberies.

The coordinated effort led officers to identify locations where three men, aged 32, 41, and 31, were apprehended.

“During the arrests, one suspect was found in possession of a 9mm pistol with seven rounds of ammunition, along with a police blue light,” Nonyane-Mpe said.

Nonyane-Mpe further noted that investigators believe the suspects used a white Volkswagen Polo fitted with the blue light to impersonate police officers and commit robberies along the N12 freeway.

Preliminary findings suggest the suspects are allegedly connected to multiple robbery incidents in the area.

“All three suspects were positively identified through CCTV footage obtained from two separate robbery incidents where the same vehicle was allegedly used,” Nonyane-Mpe said.

“A case of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition, as well as possession of a police blue light, has been opened for further investigation, and additional charges may be added as more information becomes available,” Nonyane-Mpe added.
