Church attack suspect set to appear in court after Easter incident
A suspect accused of a shocking church attack in Emalahleni is set to appear in court as the victim calls for bail to be denied.
The man accused of attacking a 71-year-old worshipper inside a church during the Easter weekend is set to appear again at the Emalahleni Magistrate’s Court.
The incident, which unfolded inside a place of worship, left congregants shaken after the suspect allegedly entered the church and attempted to stab the elderly woman while she was praying.
The victim, Elizabeth Sikeli, survived the attack without injuries after fellow congregants intervened and subdued the suspect at the scene.
He was subsequently arrested and made his first court appearance on April 7.
Sikeli has since called for the accused to be denied bail, citing fears for her safety following the incident.
Despite the traumatic experience, she remains resolute in her faith and believes she was divinely protected.
