New bakery and vegetable garden unveiled at Asiphilenikahle

The social enterprise has created jobs for 10 local young people who were trained to work at the bakery and garden.

Asiphilenikahle Childcare Centre, located in KwaGuqa, Emalahleni, with support from the community-based child protection programme RISIHA, launched a social enterprise on July 9, aimed at bridging the youth unemployment gap and sustaining childcare services.

According to Pinkie Kubheka, the centre’s supervisor, the initiative, which consists of a vegetable garden and a bakery, is intended to benefit the orphans and vulnerable children the organisation supports.

“The money we make from the enterprise will benefit the kids that we are working with and will also be used to pay staff,” Kubheka said.

Training local youth

The centre has hired 10 young people from the area to operate the bakery and garden, both donated by Siyabonga Africa.

According to Kubheka, the new employees have received proper training in farming and bakery operations.

The launch was attended by representatives of the Department of Social Development, UNICEF, Siyabonga Africa and community members.
