A man was arrested for rape after accompanying his girlfriend to the police station for what he believed to be an affidavit enquiry.

According to the police, a woman alleged that the tragedy unfolded on August 21 around 19:00 when she visited her boyfriend at Old Coronation.

The couple started drinking with other ladies, who later decided to leave.

When the girlfriend attempted to leave as well, she said her boyfriend refused.

That was when he reportedly locked her inside the house, stripped her clothes, and assaulted her before allegedly raping her.

The victim told the police that her boyfriend kept her locked in for a few days, as he allegedly continued raping and assaulting her.

When he finally released her, the woman said she convinced him to accompany her to the police station, pretending to need an affidavit for her employer to account for her absence from work.

The strategy succeeded, and when they got to the station, while the unsuspecting boyfriend sat on a bench, the victim disclosed the abuse to officers. Police immediately arrested the man.

Warrant Officer David Ratau from Witbank SAPS advised that men should always respect “no” from women, regardless of the relationship.

“If your partner says they are not interested in sleeping with you, you should respect it regardless of the relationship between the two of them,” Ratau said. “Being married to someone doesn’t mean you own their body; they have a right to say no.”
