Family homeless after devastating Stanford Street room fire
The family pleads with the community of eMalahleni to assist them with any form of donation, particularly shelter, food, clothes and school uniforms.
A mother and her two children are pleading for community assistance after a fire destroyed their rented room in Stanford Street, Ext 10 earlier today, leaving them homeless.
Neighbours noticed smoke coming from the room occupied by Faith Mushangwe and her two children, aged 12 and 17.
Although the fire department and emergency services managed to stop the blaze from spreading to neighbouring rooms and houses, all the family’s possessions were destroyed.
Mushangwe, who was at work at the time of the fire, spoke of her shock.
“I left the house in the morning for work. It is so sad that we are now homeless and have lost everything to the fire,” said Mushangwe. “I don’t know what to do now.”

She pleaded with the eMalahleni community for donations of shelter, food, clothing and school uniforms for her children, who attend Pine Ridge Combined School.
The family has received a sponge, blankets, a stove, and gas cylinder from the fire department, and will sleep at a neighbour’s home tonight.
“We really plead with the community to help us where they can because we don’t even have food to eat or clothes to wear at this point,” she said.

The cause of the fire has not yet been identified.
