Not good news for motorists – no progress at licensing office
Department of Employment and Labour inspection pending as building renovations continue without clear timelines.
Little progress has been made at the main licensing office two months after it was shut due to unsafe working conditions.

The Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison spokesperson Zandile Mavuso said the local municipality is undertaking renovations on the building after it was closed by the Department of Employment and Labour (DOL) on July 16.

“We have no specific timeline on how long the renovations will take place, but we will keep our communities updated,” Mavuso said.
A visit by Witbank News this morning revealed an empty site, with furniture pushed to one side and a small crew laying tiles in the room where learners’ licences are written.

The DOL previously prohibited occupation due to safety concerns.
Provincial Chief Inspector Boikie Mampuru said the closure was triggered by unsafe electrical installations, biological hazards caused by water leaks, and ceiling boards at risk of collapsing.

Mampuru indicated the department would revisit the facility after 60 days, and an inspection is expected to take place shortly.
Municipal spokesperson Lebo Mofokeng has not yet commented on media enquiries submitted following the closure.
