Siyanqoba house burglary and rape case back in court for pre-trial

Two suspects in the Siyanqoba house burglary and rape case appear in the eMalahleni Regional Court today for a pre-trial.

Two men accused in the Siyanqoba house burglary and rape case are expected to appear in the eMalahleni Regional Court for pre-trial today (October 29).

The two suspects remain in police custody after being denied bail in February, while a third suspect remains at large.

The matter dates back to September 21 last year, when three intruders broke into a woman’s home while she was sleeping with her children.

According to police, the woman ignored a knock at the door before the suspects smashed a bedroom window to gain entry. Fearing for her children’s safety, she moved them to another room before the suspects confronted her.

The victim alleged that one of the suspects held her at gunpoint and demanded money before forcing her into another bedroom, where he raped her.

Two of the suspects were wearing balaclavas, while the third was unmasked. Police said they fled the scene with a plasma television, cellphones, a Wi-Fi router and a gas cylinder.

Local women have continued to attend court proceedings in support of the victim, calling for justice and stronger action against gender-based violence (GBV).

Community member Nomsa Masiyela previously said: “We stand with the victim and support all women who face such violence. We invite more women to join us, because incidents like these can happen to anyone, and together we can raise our voices for justice.”
