The only true wisdom is in knowing you know nothing.

The only true wisdom is in knowing you know nothing.

Such a profound statement rings deep within my being. It keeps my thirst for knowledge and understanding of the world aflame and drives me to not only better understand my peers and the world, but myself as well. Buddy is laying flat on his back like I would be if I were relaxing on the beach and somehow it seems to me that he has life figured out. He has found his purpose in life (which is food) and how to get it (begging non stop) so he has no worries. Humans on the other hand, boy oh boy do we lack the knowledge and understanding of life and it’s mysteries.

Recently two children were kidnapped from there home by gun point whilst their mother looked on. The reason they took them is unknown but the fact that the one girl has albinism points to bad understanding some cultures have around the condition. You see, knowledge was passed down the years of people with albinism which turned into stigma’s and caused people to react and abduct a child for one of those ‘pieces of knowledge’ putting her life in danger. That’s the power of passing down falsehoods as fact; someone will get hurt.

The older I get, the more I realise that many of the stories I was raised on turned out to be the biggest load of bull but most of it held up. That’s what makes knowledge so important in that we can prove, test and use everything then throw away the useless info. Knowledge we keep should be churned and turned into wisdom that we pass along to our children and families in the hopes that it will better equip them for the future and what it holds. Seeing as my daughter is only a few weeks away from entering this world, I have to start gathering all the wisdom I can.

Buddy jumps up at the sound of a packet being opened and unapologetically starts begging for a bite and I can’t fault him because he knows what he is and what he believes in. Maybe we’re also just begging to understand everything a little better?
