Adult supervision (not) required

Sometimes we need some help, or do we?

Sometimes we need some help, or do we?

I have always wondered; when do we actually stand on our own two feet? Is it when we turn 18 and enter the world of adulthood? Or is it when we start work or when we have kids? Do we ever become truly independent? I must admit, without my parents and in laws we would have been lost. They form such an integral part of our support system in regards to Liah and us as well and we rely on them every day without even mentioning it aloud.

That brings me to being an adult. We don’t always take well to being supervised and at our core we are like the 5 year olds of the world, we know everything. I take myself for example, when it came to raising a child no matter how much you think you know; you know nothing. I am the typical parent that will spit out 20 different scenarios and try and justify why she just made a certain noise or why is she not sleeping all the while, I should just accept it and take it a day at a time.

While we were having a braai at friends of ours, Liah started to scream and it sounded like she was in so much pain and we were so shocked because it never happened before. In walks a family friend of ours and within 20 seconds she was calm and on her way to pass out. That is the type of supervision and help we need in life. I don’t need anyone telling me how to do my job, raise my child or anything like that purely for the fact that if you try and tell someone what to do the whole time, even though they are very well capable, you undermine their intelligence and it makes them feel unwanted.

Liah just laughed at me while changing her nappy and although it is the cutest thing I have witnessed, I can’t help but think she is laughing at my skills in changing a nappy
