A Mother’s Love

Do we really know the depth of a mother’s love?

Do we really know the depth of a mother’s love?

When I look at the women in my life I realise the great example I have of motherhood. From my sister with her twins, my own mother with myself, my mother in law with her kids and finally my own wife with our daughter. There is boundless love that no man will ever be able to understand and the bond that a mother has with her children is something that is so hard to describe, yet so easy to see.

So sitting behind my laptop yesterday I experienced two distinct emotions all at once; my blood running cold and this pit in my stomach forming and then my blood boiling and anger overtaking me all at once. Why? Because of a story coming in about a mother throwing her 2 month old baby boy out the window, not a wrapper or chips packet, a 5 month old living baby boy. What has to go through your mind to throw your child out of the window? Sure a lot of parents have experienced problem children and felt driven to the point of doing something extreme but what kind of monster do you have to be to just discard life so effortlessly?

There are always reasons for everything that happens, no matter what but you don’t always have to understand them. Readers have been theorizing about why the mother did what she did, some citing mental health or Post Natal Depression but at the end of the day, nothing can excuse your actions when it comes to taking a life or at least attempting it.

I look at my daughter and all I feel is unexplainable love in my heart. One day she is going to give us a hard time and we will have to handle it, together, but I will take a 100 bad days to give her just one good day. That’s what a parent does.
